Meanwhile in Calgary...

Just opened in Calgary -- through mid-September, so catch it quickly while you can!

Contextural describes itself thus:

Contextural is a community of textile artists fostering a cooperative creative environment in support of the production of artistic works. Contextural contributes to the artistic advancement of our members through access to a collaborative working environment, professional development and the exhibition of new work.

This particular exhibit is the group's annual show of work done during its summer residency at the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD).  Several SAQA Western Canada members belong to Contextural -- Diane Duncan,  Terri Illingworth, Wendy Klotz, Lorraine Ross and Lynda Williamson.  However, as of this writing, their participation in this year's exhibit is unconfirmed, for which I apologize.  (If one of these gals can elucidate in the comments or by e-mail to me, I'd appreciate it!)

In Alberta...Calgary-based Contextural's exhibit, Contextural Meets Barbara at the Leighton Centre, Millarville, closes September 18 and that same group's exhibit, SelfEDGE, their end-of-summer Residency show at Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) does too.  The Closing Reception for SelfEDGE is tomorrow evening -- Thursday, September 15 -- starting at 6 p.m.

This talented group includes SAQA members Wendy Klotz, Leslie Barnes and Terri Illingworth...so please give them your support if you are in the area!

Opening Soon!

In B.C....Nancy Riemersma, Patt Wilson and colleagues are mounting an exhibit entitled "Architextiles" at the Reach Gallery Museum, 32388 Veterans Way, Abbotsford.  The show opens September 29, and runs through January 8, 2017; the Opening Reception is September 29 at 7:00 p.m.

Meanwhile in Edmonton...

Dahlia Log Cabin Series:
Quilt #2 - Terri Illingworth

Two Calgary-area members, Terri Illingworth and Lynda Williamson, are participating in an exhibit at the Alberta Craft Council -- on now through March 26.

X3 is a collaboration by three groups invited to show the 'cutting edge of fine craft' in their work.  Terri and Lynda are members of Contextural Fibre Art Collective, one of the three groups involved in the exhibit.

Alberta member Mary Wilton and I took a road-trip up to Edmonton on March 4; X3 was but one of the three exhibits we enjoyed during a day filled with colour and artistic inspiration.

If you're in the Edmonton area -- or are able to drive up there before this exhibit closes on March 26 -- we encourage you to do so.  In addition to the exhibit, you'll find wonderful textile pieces for purchase in the Gallery Shop, including work by Edmonton member, Margie Davidson.
