BC and Alberta reps are setting dates and are in the process of determining locations for meetings in the very near future. Watch for details on this blog and in your email inbox.

PAM Membership Info

SAQA offers two memberships. While all members are eligible to participate in Calls for Entry across the board, the Call for Submission for inclusion in the SAQA Portfolio is open exclusively to PAMs.

Consider applying for PAM membership, if you have contemplated a status change over the past year. The deadline for consideration by the PAM selection committee is March 1st! There is still time for you to gather and organize the required documentation!

Click here to see what you need to do!

Not quite convinced yet? Here are some other perks for PAMs...

1.  Work in the Gallery of SAQA’s web site, which then becomes part of the Home Page slide show.
2.  Listing in the Teachers Workshops/Lectures section of the web site.
3.  Work included in the annual SAQA Portfolio -- in 2010 SAQA sent 4000 copies to museums, galleries, architects, interior designers, art consultants, etc.
4.  Work included in the SAQA PowerPoint, which is rented out to various groups.
5.  Eligibility for special exhibit opportunities.
6.  Notice of professional opportunities.
7.  Personal satisfaction from supporting the world’s largest organization for art quilters and its work to promote the art quilt.

Message from the SAQA President

From Sandra Sider:

After three months of settling into my new position as SAQA's President, I have been thinking about the challenges of this honor and how I might best serve our members.  I have been phoning the SAQA regional representatives, listening to their concerns and ideas, and speaking with individual members.  Below are the three main goals that I hope to accomplish between now and the fall of 2013, with your help.

1. Guide the Board through a five-year long-range planning process, in which we look to the future of our organization and determine how we can better serve the members. We have a planning committee in place, chaired by Kris Sazaki, and have already begun meeting via conference calls.  Our long-range planning will be the focus of two days of Board meetings in Denver.

2. Chair the SAQA Endowment Campaign (to be launched this spring), with the goal of raising at least $150,000 by the end of 2013 in a permanent fund, whose earnings will enable some of the initiatives in #1 to be developed, and also support our other projects.  Soon you will be receiving a letter in the mail about the endowment campaign, and we will have an endowment page on the web site.

3. Travel across the U.S. and Canada, giving critique sessions without any fee for our regional groups, raising the awareness of quilts as an art form and encouraging the establishment of local critique groups.  These sessions, directed especially toward non-PAM members, will include works in progress as well as completed quilts.

Thank you to the Western Canada members that have already expressed interest in Sandra's offer to visit and offer a free critique session. If you are interested, please let your regional rep know as soon as possible, so we can begin to plan a visit by SAQA president Sandra Sider.

Call for Entry / General Blog Update

The Call for Entry for "Connected Across the West" is now open for submission! Visit the guidelines on the Call for Entry page.

In addition I want to announce our Featured Member pages. Starting Monday, February 7th, 2011 and every Monday thereafter, one Western Canada SAQA member will be showcased. I need everyone's cooperation with this: Please send a picture of yourself (ideally you working in your studio),  an image of your work and a short bio. All this will be posted on the member's page.

Beginning with the Western Canada co-reps for now I need your information as soon as possible, as it takes some time to format the info. I will feature members on a first come first "publish" basis and look forward to receiving your info!

Send the requested information to Anna at your earliest convenience, subscribe to the RSS feed and meet some of the members for the first time! Thanks for your cooperation!
